Our Academies

At St. Andrew’s Grammar, we pride ourselves on being able to provide educational experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

For some years now, we have been a Perth Glory Academy School which continues to grow at a rapid rate which we, as a school community, are proud to witness. The growth of this program, in turn attracts new students to our campus increasing the growth of our wonderful school. We are increasingly being seen as school of choice in Perth and we are excited to further our academy offering commencing in 2025 in support of our continued excellence in academics.

See below to learn more about our Academy Programs.

STEM ACADEMY

Led by dedicated STEM & Technology Integration Coach and international Award-Winning Educator, Mr Michael Graffin, our STEM Academy aims to provide hands-on project-based and inquiry learning experiences. The program will be driven by student interest and will include opportunities to participate in state and national STEM and robotics competitions.

Our STEM Academy will be open to successful applicants entering Year 4 through to Year 9 who demonstrate a high level of interest and engagement with STEM learning and activities as well as being strong and confident in problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration and in their creative abilities.

There will be a core focus on collaborative problem-solving and community engagement, requiring academy students to work across year-levels in multi-age teams.

Being a St. Andrew’s Grammar STEM Academy Student will require some lunchtime, after-school, and occasional weekend commitments This is a unique opportunity for students interested in STEM, but places and the potential for scholarships for new students to the school are limited.

PERFORMANCE ARTS ACADEMY

The importance of performing arts learning in Music, Dance & Drama has wide reaching benefits for our students, providing them with the tools to think creatively, innovate and appreciate diverse cultures and backgrounds. Performance arts encourage students to explore their emotions, expand their imagination and helps them develop their own, unique voice. Each discipline of music, dance and drama engages our students’ brain, body and emotions in different ways to encourage confidence and joy in self-expression.

Emotional intelligence, creativity, confidence and communication skills are some of the key outcomes of performing arts education. Many studies have also concluded that students who participate in performing arts education enjoy improved performance in their academic subjects.

At St. Andrew’s Grammar our Primary students receive weekly Music lessons delivered by our Director of Performing Arts, Mrs. Marina Powell, who is a graduate of the Conservatorium of Music at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts). They also receive Greek cultural dance lessons from Mrs. Stelliani Tzavellas, our Greek Curriculum Coordinator. In the Secondary School, students receive weekly Music lessons from Dr. Visser Liebenberg who holds a PhD in Music Performance and Research. Drama lessons are also offered in the secondary school and taught by Ms. Shana O’Shea, who is an outstanding performing arts educator.

We take great pride in offering Musical Theatre, Choir and Ensemble opportunities for our students including Junior Choir, Performance Choir, Flute Choir, Dance Troupe, Primary Band, Secondary Band, as well as our biennial Musical Theatre production. The choirs, dance troupe and ensembles enjoy many performance opportunities throughout the year including performing arts festivals, eisteddfods, community and cultural events.

In addition to the classroom program, students can enrol into our co-curricular instrumental lessons that include Piano, Strings, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum Kit, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Baritone.
